Emerald Talent Solutions was founded by Dave Pandit — originally from the UK, with 20 years of enterprise technology delivery experience, over five years working in global operations, eight years based in Medellín, and a clear conviction that technology talent placement could be done significantly better.
Emerald is founder-owned and founder-funded. No volume targets. No investor metrics. No incentive to place the wrong person fast. Every placement matters because it has to.
Before Emerald, before Medellín, Dave Pandit spent two decades at the sharp end of technology delivery. Head of IT Operations at Circle Health. IT Director at UME Diagnostics. Head of PMO at Virgin Care — a £1.3 billion NHS-contracted healthcare provider — where he led a £21 million project portfolio and turned around a failing £9 million Oracle Cloud Fusion programme within 90 days.
The common thread across every role was not the technology. It was the people — finding the right ones, building the right conditions for them to deliver, and staying accountable when things went wrong. By the time Dave joined MVW Technology as Head of Global Delivery in late 2020, that instinct had become a methodology.
At MVW, he built and scaled a global delivery team from the ground up — a project portfolio delivering complex cloud migrations, data migrations, security infrastructure programmes, intranets and custom technology solutions serving clients across Finance, Private Equity, Real Estate and Healthcare. He designed the PPM framework and delivery methodologies. He led the organisation to ISO 27001, 9001, and 14001 certification.
It was at MVW that the Emerald idea took shape — not as an abstract ambition, but as a direct response to what he saw the established global recruiters getting consistently wrong.
Emerald's job does not end when the consultant starts. That is when it begins.
In 2017, after being made redundant from Virgin Care as part of a large cost-cutting exercise, Dave made a deliberate choice. Life in the UK had become comfortable in a way that felt like stagnation. He travelled to Chiang Mai to think — and came back with five goals: continue making a positive impact on people, live somewhere closer to nature, build something financially sustainable, learn a new language and integrate within a different culture, and settle down.
He arrived in Medellín in September 2017. In April 2018 he bought Ondas — a hostel, café, and bar in a busy tourist neighbourhood — and began building.
What he found in Colombia was not what the outside narrative suggested. The people he hired and worked with woke up early, worked hard, studied outside of work, and conducted themselves with integrity and humility. Pre-pandemic, Medellín had already established itself as Latin America's leading technology and innovation hub — cited consistently as the number one destination for digital nomads in the region, and recognised for its ecosystem of startups, international investment, and engineering talent.
Running a busy and vibrant hostel, café & bar on a tight budget in a foreign country turns out to be an excellent training ground for building high-performing, diverse teams. Every initiative at Ondas required the same things Emerald now applies to every placement: strong vision, clear governance, inclusive leadership, and the right person in the right role. The first delivery teams were built at Ondas.
The western professionals who came and stayed — often for months at a time — were themselves a signal. They were not tourists. They were technology workers, entrepreneurs, and founders who had chosen Medellín because it worked: the infrastructure, the connectivity, the culture, and the talent pool.
Dave is married to a Colombian partner and runs Ondas Eventos — a language exchange and cultural events organisation that has become part of the city's social fabric. Emerald's sourcing is not remote. It is rooted.

Just before the pandemic, Dave was planning to expand — a partnership with a Dutch friend who also had a hostel in Medellín, would see the development of Ondas Spanish school and a restaurant renovation following the café's early success. When the pandemic broke, his partner returned to the Netherlands. Ondas closed. Approximately $100,000 of investment was lost.
He describes it as an expensive education in the realities of running a local business abroad. What it was not was a reason to leave. Despite losing everything, there was no desire to return to England. The sense of belonging in Medellín was stronger than the loss. He was not going anywhere.
The next few months were spent rebuilding from scratch — updating his CV, rebuilding his LinkedIn profile, preparing for interviews. Traditional office roles were beginning to appear as remote positions. He secured a short-term contract with a US CRM integrator. Then, in late 2020, he began conversations with Adrian Vieyra at MVW Technology.
What followed was four years of building MVW's global delivery function — and watching, at close range, how the established global recruiters operated. Unprepared candidates. Misaligned role briefs. Disproportionate fees. Zero post-placement support. Dave had built a formidable LATAM team capable of delivering complex outcomes for US clients and integrating seamlessly with UK delivery teams. The contrast between what he had built and what the agencies had tried to deliver was stark.
The thought was simple: I can deliver what they delivered — ten times better. Emerald Talent Solutions was founded in 2024.
Most organisations measure success at the moment of placement. Emerald measures it at 30 days, 90 days, and every quarter thereafter. That ongoing commitment matters as much to the consultant as it does to the client — a placed professional who feels supported, developed, and valued delivers better and stays longer. Emerald Sky exists for both sides of that equation.
"The first technology talent partner to deliver ongoing post-placement support and talent development — funded from its own margin."
